Marjie and Steven of Wheel Wishers have sent an update on their activities to support The Code on their 10 month-journey across Asia, Europe and Africa. This update is for the period of May to June 2013.
During this time period, they traveled through the following cities/countries and talked to the following establishments to introduce The Code:
– Seoul, South Korea – visited SK Happiness Foundation, Work Together Foundation;
– Kransnayarsk and Tomsk in Russia – visited Sibil Tour Hostel, Tomsk Hostel;
– Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia – visited Rotary Club UB (twice!), Oasis Guesthouse, Zaya Guesthouse;
– Astana and Almaty in Kazakhstan – visited Apple Hostel in Astana and Almaty, Rotary Almaty;
– Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan – visited Nomad Hostel, KCBTA – Kyrgyz Community Based Tourism Association;
– Odessa in Ukraine – visited Marenero Hotel.
Marije and Steven also talked about the issue of sexual exploitation of children in relation to the travel and tourism industry with fellow travelers in each of the countries.
They found that most individual travellers did not assume that the sexual exploitation of children was still a big problem and did not understand the need to raise awareness. However, when confronted with information from the latest reports produced by ECPAT, their attitude completely changed.
Please stay tune for future updates as they continue on their journey to Africa.
