We are thrilled to announce that Sabre Holdings is the latest tourism company to reach Top Member status, having implemented all six of The Code’s criteria for protecting children from sex tourism.
By implementing all criteria of The Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism (The Code) and becoming a Top Member, Sabre is making a clear statement that the sexual exploitation of children in tourism will not be tolerated.
As part of their implementation of The Code, Sabre created Passport to Freedom, an educational and awareness programme about human trafficking created specifically for the travel industry. Through the project, Sabre also advocates for legislative change and provides opportunities for leaders to collaborate against human trafficking.
To date, Sabre have already trained 22% of their 10,000 employees, created policies for the protection of children in tourism, and have used their voice to promote awareness and responsibility for child protection throughout their supply chain and within the wider tourism sector. In becoming a Top Member of The Code and advocating strongly within the sector for the protection of children, Sabre are taking a lead role within the travel industry in the fight against child sex tourism.
“As a leading technology provider in the travel space, Sabre sits at the intersection of many constituents in the travel industry. We realised that we could capitalise on that position to reach as many eyes and ears as possible to enhance the level of awareness about human trafficking for our employees, suppliers and customers,” explained Cristina Scott, Chairperson of Passport to Freedom at Sabre. “The more publicity the issue receives, the more people will be aware of what they are seeing, be able to help, and make a difference.”
Through their implementation of The Code, the Passport to Freedom programme, and their advocacy work, Sabre is truly helping to protect children from sex tourism. We extend a warm and heartfelt thank you to Sabre for their phenomenal efforts to promote the protection of children in tourism and applaud their leadership from within the industry on this critical issue.
